Proposal for a Memorial Park
Main Motion
This proposal comes from the Missions Committee and takes the form of a motion:
1. to clear the undeveloped land behind the church of dead trees and underbrush;
2. to survey the land for drainage and other issues preparatory to development;
3. to construct a memorial park as a fellowship area, picnic area, and playground.
Implicit in the motion is the church’s authorization for investigation of all costs, labor, expertise, and permits required to carry out these functions; also its financial and spiritual support for the undertaking, subject to periodic consultation with the appropriate church boards as specified in the [Denomination's] discipline and the church by-laws.
Rationale
Development of such a park falls generally under the heading of good stewardship of church resources and specifically under two dimensions of the church vision: neighborhood outreach and congregational fellowship. It is also expected that a park will assist in attracting new families to the church.
